An Inside LOOK of an Ambitious Woman
Shakira Rae Adams, Reiki practitioner, Herbalist, Placenta Encapsulator
Shakira is quiet the renaissance woman, weaving in and out of her various talents. She began in music, zig zagged to dance, excelled in sports medicine, cut through pre-med, excelled through nursing and has found her rabbit hole in herbalism where she combines her arts and sciences. Studying Reiki through the lineage of Mikao Usui, her mission in life is to provide equitable healing and education to everyone. She believes in the power of the mind, touch and positive reframing. Shakira keeps her mind and body active through learning, creating and experiencing life. Most of her schooling was completed at Bowling Green State University. She is a proud momma of one dog, Yoni, who is the light of her life. With her 2018 goal to thrive not just survive, she has returned to her previous journey of holistic healing and health. Shakira has a focus in women’s health and well-being, placenta encapsulating, holistic herbalism and healing through the power of the divine.
Shakira doesn’t allow for much free time as she is a doer and a Leo all around. In those occasional times she explores nature, travels the world, finds new recipes to tweak, writes, rock climbs, listens to music and connects with her community.
Shakira’s dance training resides from Ghana, West Africa where she studied with Bernard Woma. Her dance journey began at Bowling Green State University studying under Dr. Halifu Osumare, Tammy Starr and Deborah Tell, while pursuing her Bachelors in Music Education specializing in classical trumpet performance. Shakira loved to move and found such passion in allowing her soul to speak to the world when her words could not. “Dance kept me sane through my education. Dance gave me breathe and brought me to life when the end was far from sight.” Shakira couldn’t learn enough about movement, so she pursued a Master’s of Education in Sports Medicine with an emphasis on kinesiology.
As she pursued a MD she found herself with less time to do what she really wanted to do. Directions shifted and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Cincinnati’s accelerated nursing program. A year ago she uprooted and moved to Seattle to continue to dive into who she really is. “I am not bored, ever! I have found ways, through education and the arts, to express my inner most thoughts and feelings. I have created avenues to deal with life's stressors and continue to find ways to tell my story. Even though time does not stand still, I will continue to drive forward making a difference along my path.”
